In the winter of 2022, we left the Mid-Atlantic region and moved to the down east coast of Maine. Our new home, a circa 1800 farmhouse, had a kitchen full of non-functioning appliances and musty old cabinetry. A re-do was in order.

Our enthusiasm for our fresh seaside locale led us to some fun material and color combinations, reflecting the changing moods of weather, seasons, and the natural environment that, for us, characterize the appeal of year round living in Maine. The bright colors keep the space cheerful during the long winter. And the layout, while compact, is conducive to two cooks working simultaneously at different tasks, while socializing with family or friends at the kitchen dining table or perched around the island.
